WHAT IS AHK-Cu?
AHK-Cu (L-Alanyl-L-Histidyl-L-Lysine-Copper) is a copper-binding tripeptide that has attracted research interest primarily for its potential effects on hair follicles, dermal papilla cells and tissue biology.
Dermal papilla cells sit at the base of the hair follicle and play an important role in regulating follicle development and hair growth.
Laboratory research using human hair follicles found that AHK-Cu stimulated hair-follicle elongation ex vivo and increased the proliferation of cultured human dermal papilla cells.
This makes AHK-Cu particularly interesting for researchers studying the biological mechanisms involved in hair growth and follicular activity.
HOW AHK-Cu WORKS
• Supports Dermal Papilla Cell Activity:
AHK-Cu has been shown experimentally to stimulate proliferation of human dermal papilla cells, an important cell population involved in regulating the hair follicle.
• Hair Follicle Research:
In isolated human hair follicles, AHK-Cu increased follicle elongation under laboratory conditions.
• Cell-Survival Pathways:
Research has investigated AHK-Cu's influence on signalling pathways associated with dermal papilla cell survival and apoptosis. These findings remain preclinical and should not be interpreted as proof of hair regrowth in people.
• Copper-Peptide Biology:
Copper-binding research compounds are studied for their involvement in cellular signalling, extracellular-matrix biology and tissue-remodelling processes.
